I make my monotypes by drawing with printing ink on a plastic plate and then transferring the result onto paper using an etching press. To create layered effects, I repeat the process once, twice, or several times.

While I use various tools and expressive drawing techniques, in most cases my goal is not to reproduce a scene from life, but to engage in pure play. My "toys" are gesture, color, composition, structure and space, and I manipulate them with no preconceived idea of what the final artwork will look like.

When I fully engage in this type of art-making, the resulting print often triggers what for me is a fascinating and unexpected array of real world associations and emotions. My hope is that when you look and linger, these images will evoke associations and emotions for you as well.
